Play the detective: how to write your police report

But de l'exercice: rédiger un rapport de police.

 La scène de crime ainsi que le nom de la victime seront les mêmes pour tout le monde.

 En revanche, chacun d'entre vous doit inventer sa propre histoire.

 Votre histoire doit contenir les éléments suivants:

• détails sur la victime, était-elle veuve, divorcée, remariée, etc...

• indices trouvés sur la scène de crime (traces de pas, empreintes, bouton de chemise, etc...)

• ce que faisait la victime quand elle a été tuée.

• témoins (qui ont vu le crime, ou bien qui ont vu quelqu'un entrer dans la maison à l'heure du crime).

• Suspects potentiels (pas plus de deux, dire qui ils sont)

• hypothèse concernant le meurtre (racontez comment s'est déroulé le meurtre) et preuves de votre hypothèse

• coupable: qui est-il et pourquoi, comment a-t-il tué Mary Kenton?

Vous devrez utiliser les notions suivantes:

• prétérit simple

• prétérit BE + ING

• vocabulaire vu pendant la séquence

• au moins une voix passive (voir la leçon 42 p 149 du du livre pour vous aider)

 Vous pourrez procéder de la manière suivante (pas obligatoirement, mais c'est ce que je vous conseille)

 1)Reprendre le brouillon et y apporter toutes les corrections nécessaires grâce aux éléments vus en cours ce vendredi.

2)Compléter et enrichir votre texte de départ. Veiller à la cohérence de votre histoire. En cas de doute, ne pas hésiter à regarder votre cours ou votre livre, utiliser également un dictionnaire (papier ou dictionnaire en ligne). Ne pas utiliser de traducteur en ligne.

3)Mettre au propre une première fois avant de rédiger le texte définitif. Votre copie doit être propre et lisible sinon je ne la corrigerai pas.

4)Consulter l'exemple ci-dessous:

 POLICE REPORT

 The victim is Mary Kenton, 68 / a 68-year-old woman. She was married / single / divorced.

She was a widow/ a spinster. She lived alone/ on her own. She used to live alone.

The victim was found in her kitchen. She was found by her neighbour/ the postman/ her son/ her daughter/ her husband etc... She was found on January 10^th, 2014, at around midnight/ noon.

The victim is lying in her kitchen. In the room, there is an ironing board. The fridge is open/ empty.

There is a cake in the oven/ the oven is open. There is a rolling pin on the table.

The victim was shot/ stabbed/ choked/ strangled/ she had a heart attack etc...

She died on January 10^th at 11:45, according to the forensics' / the coroner's indications.

The victim was (probably) ironing/ cooking/ preparing a cake when she was killed.

There is no witness / there isn't any witness of the crime.

There is a witness: Mrs Jane Goodman, 74 years old is Mrs Kenton's neighbour. On Jan. 10^th at 11:40, she saw a tall brown-haired man running out of Mrs Kenton's house. He was wearing a yellow shirt and green trousers. Mrs Goodmna immediately called the police and went to her neighbour's house, where she found her lying in the kitchen.

We found no clues/ We didn't find any clue/ No clue was found on the crime scene.

We found a button/ footprints/ a handkerchief/ fingerprints on the victim's neck

A button was found on the crime scene.

We sent the clues to the lab / The clues were sent to the lab.

We arrested a suspect / A suspect was arrested and hold in custody: James O'Brien, a tall brown-haired man, aged 22. He is Mrs Kenton's nephew. He was in dire straits and needed money.

When his aunt refused to lend him money, he got angry and strangled her (on an impulse).

He admitted the crime and was driven to jail.
